THak you for this great article..but this is the situation all over the world this was the conversation at COCAL in Canada this year..and for the past 16 years..THis is the conversation among adjuncts in every community college in California….We get to apply for unemploymeny becasue our classes CAN be cancelled..so we have no reasonable assurance of employment (Cervisi decision) It is time for the AFT, NEA, AAUP and others to stand up for what is right and demand equal pay for equal work! Adjuncts are the majority of all higher ed instructors..so we bring in the majotiy of the funding…so why do we get the crumbs??? Make you Campu Equity Week (CEW) event loud and clear.. NO MORE ADJUNCT EXPLOITATION!!!!

Shame on Fordham University Administration! How “Christian” of them to pay basically poverty wages to adjuncts, while they make well into the six figures from he 200K+ in nondischargeable debt they make students and their families take on for generic liberal arts degrees!

I’m glad they are taking a stand, especially since the lock-out nonsense at Long Island U and the union-busting going on at other schools (though I will have to say that they are one step up from states where it’s illegal to organize). It’s going to get worse, hard as that is to believe, because schools will continue to depend on cheap labor as long as they can get away with it, so I’m glad to see people at Fordham taking action. Good luck.
