Måneskin’s new album is out! After the last one, which blew up, I can definitely say I was very excited for this new one. Overall, the sound is classic Måneskin. It’s mostly rock, but there are pop elements and the band members delivered in their respective instruments. Victoria De Angelis really does continue to be perfect. This album has a lot more English songs which I found a little surprising, but it makes sense considering their growing popularity in the United States and how more Itailans also understand English as opposed to how few Americans also understand Italian. Their first couple songs are all in English, and one song, “GOSSIP,” even references the American Dream. It can be interpreted as commentary on society and the superficial perspectives media gives us. It was much clearer to hear their frustration in this album, with songs like “Kool Kids” referencing superficiality and thoughts on popularity and fitting in. People feeling they’re too cool or even better than others is the sentiment throughout the song. The line, “You’re not iconic and you’re just like them all,” is iconic in and of itself. I really enjoyed the slower songs on the album too, as they had the consistent rock elements and same music style but were more meaningful because Damiano David’s vocals really came through.” “IF YOU ARE NOT” was one of these tracks; it had a less energetic feel and there were even violins at some point in the background, but it worked really well. 

My personal favorites are “Gasoline,” “Feel” and “Loneliness.” They are the three I always recommend first. The lyric, “We’re gonna dance on gasoline,” is delivered so incredibly you have to hear it yourself. “The Loneliest” was the best song to end the album on in my opinion. I think the others were fun and I can listen to them on repeat for sure, but “The Loneliest” sounded the most real and had the most emotion. In terms of emotional, yell-worthy songs, this one is near the top of my list. The guitar and bass popped off, it’s just the right mix of instrumental versus lyrical and it goes back and forth between loud and soft. It’s one of the most relatable on the album, and the passion makes it my favorite. 

No further spoilers, but I’ll give my thoughts on some of the songs off the track: 

“TIME ZONE”: The lyrics in this song aren’t necessarily my favorite, but Thomas Raggi on the guitar was fantastic, and it was definitely catchy. They sounded American — I can’t explain why, but they did. It’s also a very yellable song. 

“BABY SAID”: It has a dancing vibe to it. It’s not necessarily a dancing song, but it makes you want to jump around. I can definitely hear it being played at Last Call. 

“BLA BLA BLA”: This song is definitely the raunchiest of the album, but it’s raw in its anger which I think a lot of people can relate to.

“IL DONO DELLA VITA”: This song had one of the best buildups. You can’t understand what’s being said (unless you speak Italian), but the pacing of the song is like a tense building while he’s explaining his pain. There’s a pause in the middle of the song where there’s almost pain in his voice and a little desperation, which if you look up the lyrics, you’ll understand why.
