People make it sound like the people at Barnes&Noble HQ have some kind of ulterior motive to ignore black communities and focus only on white ones on purpose. The reality with any of these stores is that if they do not make money in a certain location or with a certain demographic then they will close that store or not target those people. Barnes&Noble and Apple are not charities; if Bronx residents do not go to those stores enough to support opening them then who do you expect to foot the bill? They are public companies and must answer to stockholders for their business decisions.

Certain Fordham faculty, as well as local residents, have been loudly protesting any large corporate improvement to the Bronx neighborhood in the name of anti-gentrification. Is it any wonder that these businesses seek to bring their stores there.
