Last week, the third matchday of the Champions League took place, with all of the teams looking for a win to help their chances of advancing past the group stages and into the round of 16. Out of the 16 matches that were played, there were some notable results. Bayern Munich beat RB Salzburg with a convincing 6-2 victory, further cementing its position at the top of the table in their group. In the same group, Atlético Madrid was only able to get a 1-1 draw against Lokomotiv Moscow. In Group B, Real Madrid finally got its first win of the campaign against Inter Milan with a narrow 3-2 victory. This was a critical win for Real Madrid’s campaign since it has lost and tied its other two games. In Group C, Manchester City remained undefeated in the group stages with a 3-0 win against Olympiacos. In Group D, Liverpool also remained undefeated with a resounding 5-0 win against Atalanta, including a hat trick from forward Diogo Jota. 

In Group E, both Chelsea and Sevilla won their matches. In Group G, Barcelona and Juventus both won their games as well. And in Group H, Manchester United’s win streak was broken by a 2-1 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir. In that same group, PSG and RB Leipzig faced off again in a repeat of last year’s semifinals where PSG advanced into the finals. However, RB Leipzig got the last laugh this year in a 2-1 victory that saw PSG finish the game with only nine players and two red cards sending its players off.

After hitting the halfway point of the group stages, the only teams that are still unbeaten are Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona. The next matchday is in two weeks on Nov. 24 and 25. Those matches will be the exact same matches as this matchday. This matchday is critical for teams like Real Madrid and PSG, who are in third place in their groups. If they do not win, their chances of getting to the next stage of the competition will be even more difficult. However, in the Champions League, anything is possible, as each team tries to show why they are the best team in all of Europe.
