For Dominick Commesso, FCRH ’24,  Fordham has allowed him to realize his potential in his professional, social, and academic life that is encouraging to both him and his peers.

Commesso is a freshman at Fordham College Rose Hill; however, he is exploring all options to transfer into the Gabelli School of Business. The dedicated freshman from Summit, New Jersey, has only been a Ram for a few months, but he has already impacted the Fordham community.

While interviewing Commesso, he was humbled by the opportunity to showcase his skills and talk about his strengths. In high school, Commesso was a varsity athlete for four years on the Morristown Beard School soccer team, where he was a captain during his junior and senior years.

The four-year starter noted that he enjoyed success from his experience playing on multiple club teams outside of his school team, noting that “I was able to play at such a high level for both teams, and that is because each provided different and valuable learning experiences that prepared me better for each.” Commesso was so dominant for his club and school soccer teams that Fordham coaches began to take notice, finally landing the coveted right-winger and offering him a spot to play on the Division 1 team for the next four years.

Upon arriving at Fordham, Commesso immediately impacted his team, as he was one of two players selected to be a member of the Leadership Academy. As a newly acquired freshman, Commesso seamlessly integrated the leadership abilities harnessed during his junior and senior year captaincies, thus enabling him to be selected for this prestigious recognition.

As a Leadership Academy member, Commesso is responsible for conversing with fellow selectants, where they discuss what it is like to be a leader. The academy meets tri-annually, where students recap how their semesters have been going and how they have stayed involved being active leaders on and off the field, according to Commesso. “It is an honor I was humbled to receive and was certainly not expecting, but I can promise Fordham that they definitely picked the right man for the job.”

Serving as his high school’s treasurer as a part of their student government organization, being a leader is not a foreign trait to Commesso. His ability to stay involved and engaged in his athletics and academics, coupled with his drive and work ethic, have opened many doors for the young soccer star, but he claims that he “is not done yet.”

Commesso plans to spend these next four years at Fordham as a positive member of the community, acting as a learner, leader, and friend. After concluding our interview, I was impressed with Commesso’s ability to articulate his goals and achievements while also listening and learning from those around him, including myself. Fordham is lucky to have such an outstanding personality and fearless young leader as a member of their uber-talented and enthusiastic freshman class.
