Fordham Hosts Iftar for Ramadan

On Thursday, March 14, Fordham University’s Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) hosted an inaugural Fordham In Community (FIC) Iftar, which is the meal Muslims eat to break their fast when the sun has set during Ramadan. Fordham CCEL and the Fordham Rose Hill Muslim Student Association (MSA) students had created a “Fordham Community Effect,” the purpose being to bring together the Fordham community of faculty, staff, students and local mosques around the area. CCEL focused on bringing together communities from outside Fordham and nonprofit partners as well.

Graduate Students Submit Fourth Complaint to NLRB

On Feb. 23, the Fordham Graduate Student Workers Union (FGSW) spread awareness by distributing flyers about their contract bargaining to prospective Fordham University students and their families on both Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses. The members of the FGSW explained via X, formerly known as Twitter, that “Fordham’s upper administration [then] violated federal labor law by seeking the removal of graduate student workers organizing to improve their workplace conditions.”

Campus Ministry Hosts Catholic Women Speak Symposium

On Saturday, March 16, Fordham University’s Campus Ministry hosted the first Catholic Women Speak Symposium, an event inspired by the Global Synod with the goal of uplifting women and creating intentional spaces for conversation and discernment of the role of women within the Catholic Church. The symposium was spearheaded by three Fordham students, Anna Marie Pacione, FCRH ’26, Mollie Clark, FCRH ’26, and Lauryn Sweeney, FCRH ’25, and Carol Gibney, director of the Office of Campus Ministry Solidarity and Leadership.

Senior in 4+1 Program Makes Learning Physics More Accessible

Jan Bierowiec, FCRH ’24, is positively grounded in reality. The 21-year-old is an engineering physics major with a concentration in electrical engineering and a minor in computer science. Bierowiec finds happiness in sharing — and making it easier to share — his passion for physics with others, and is an accelerated “4+1 Program” student who intends to begin earning his Master’s in computer science in robotics this fall.

Fordham Students Attend 5K for Gaza Aid

Last Saturday, March 2, a group of 10 Fordham students participated in the Gaza 5K on the Global Day of Action for Palestine, organized by activist groups the People’s Forum and the Palestinian Youth Movement. New York City hosted both a 5K run and a march in support of Palestine. This day of action was to put as much pressure on people in power to call for a ceasefire before March 10, the start of Ramadan, a holy month in which Muslims fast, allowing for more humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Walsh Library Opens New Student Lounge

A new student lounge has opened in Walsh Library in room 108A. The space has been available to students previously, but was recently revamped. The lounge aims to provide students with a space to relax and take a break from academics.

President Tetlow to Speak at Spring Hill College Commencement

President Tania Tetlow has been chosen to be the commencement speaker at Spring Hill College’s graduation. Spring Hill is a private Jesuit university in Mobile, Ala. Tetlow has multiple connections to the university; her father attended for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and it is the sister school of Loyola University New Orleans, where Tetlow previously served as president prior to her time at Fordham University.
