Everyone has his or her favorite TV shows from last year, but these five are arguably a cut above all of the rest.
Gossip Girl
Who does not love following the lives of spoiled rich kids who live a subway stop away from us? This show profiles thousand-dollar meals, million-dollar homes and super-bratty behavior from some of the most attractive actors on television, while weaving a twisted web of drama sparked by the mysterious Gossip Girl. The CW series ended last year and Gossip Girl’s identity was finally revealed, but all of the juicy backstabbing and social climbing can be caught on Netflix.
How I Met Your Mother
“How I Met Your Mother” is the perfect comedy with an excitingly new twist. As the show has followed five best friends through their crazy and sometimes musical antics, viewers have been waiting to discover who Ted’s future wife truly is. While the show is rumored to be on its last season one can catch up on all of Barney’s legen-wait for it-dary moments, Robin’s Canadian pitfalls and the silly flashbacks before the surprise is blown forever.
Pretty Little Liars
Once you get past the dreadful acting and super-skinny starlets, “Pretty Little Liars” will become one of the guiltiest of all pleasures. Following four sneaky best friends as they try to decode messages from the mysterious “A” while dealing with their Queen Bee’s murder is almost too good to be true. Just watch out, because watching one episode can quickly turn into a weekend-long couch fest, and your professors will not be too thrilled when your excuse is that “A” told you not to do your homework.
30 Rock
The absolutely zany world of Liz Lemon, Tracy Jordan and Jack Donaghy is the best remedy for anything that life throws at you. A quick 30-minute episode has more laughs than a comedy club, but smells a lot better. The entire cast of crazy characters and excellent scripts will put your faith back into TV comedies. If not, speak to the writers of TGS. Maybe Frank will put your idea on one of his daily trucker hats.
The Big Bang Theory
It is impossible to dislike the classic plot of “The Big Bang Theory.” Dumb blonde Penny is surrounded by nerds who are infatuated with her more than almost anything else, except for Quantum Physics. Sheldon’s one-liners and “Bazingas” make the show completely worthwhile. Although the science talk and DDR-ing was in rare form in 2012, even more is yet to come and you will not want to miss it for the world.
