Sound Out Sandy (SOS), Thursday night’s benefit concert hosted by Fordham’s Residence Halls Association (RHA), Campus Activities Board (CAB) and United Student Government (USG), raised just over $3,200 to support the many local victims of Hurricane Sandy. The money will be donated through Fordham’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
The Satin Dolls, Fordham Flava, the Ramblers and the B-Sides were among the 14 musical acts that performed in the concert, which was held on the second floor of the McGinley Center.
“So many people at Fordham are from the tri-state area, so nearly everyone has a story connected to the hurricane,” Michael Meehan, FCRH ’14 and president of RHA, said before the concert. “We’ve asked our performers to provide our audience with a brief anecdote about how the storm has affected them.”
Admission into the event was $5 and individual raffle tickets for a variety of prizes, including an iPad mini, a Kindle and a Spring Weekend t-shirt, were $1. Cupcakes were also sold.
“We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity at tonight’s event,” the concert’s program noted. “With your help, our fellow students will be able to get back on their feet. We are Fordham.”
Prior to the event, over 300 students said via Facebook that they would attend.
