Marking another snow day for the Spring semester, Rose Hill campus is closed on Monday, Feb. 2, due to severe weather conditions in the area, according to an email from Public Safety early Monday morning.

The Westchester campus and Calder Center also are closed, though Lincoln Center will have a delayed opening at 11:30 a.m.

Ram Van service will continue, stated the university-wide email, but will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

Campus dining facilities will be open on their normal schedules on both campuses and the Quinn and Walsh Libraries will be open on their normal schedules for study purposes, according to the email.

The closing follows a tentative delayed opening for Rose Hill. Public Safety, in an email on Sunday evening, stated that university officials would  “monitor icing conditions overnight, and will update this announcement at or before 9 a.m.” on Monday. 

Monday’s update arrived around 7:30 a.m.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday,  New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the latest weather forecast predicted between 2 and 5 inches of snow.

“Based on what we know now, school will be open, M.T.A. will be running pretty smoothly,” de Blasio said. “You will experience delays; people should give themselves extra time and should act carefully.”

Though it is only the first week of classes in February, students already have had a number of classes cancelled due to weather conditions. Last week, Monday afternoon classes were cancelled and all classes were cancelled on Tuesday.

Last year, the excessive number of missed days resulted in a cancellation of reading days for students at the end of the semester. Two years ago, in 2013, students experienced a condensed schedule because of missed days due to Hurricane Sandy.

The university is yet to suggest such a schedule change for the 2015 Spring semester.
