The Fordham Rose Hill United Student Government (USG) met on Thursday, March 13, to give committee updates and discuss new business.
The Commuter Student Association (CSA) launched its “Rainy Day Rentals” initiative, where students can now rent an umbrella by requesting one through a Google Form.
Executive President Eron Maltzman, GSB ’25, presented the new changes being made to the USG bylaws. He explained that he wants to remove the last clause that separates the Committee of International Integration from the rest of the USG committees so that they may be fully integrated into USG. He said that making this change will ensure that the Committee of International Integration receives proper USG funding. Maltzman added that with this change, the Vice President of International Integration will be voted on in the next election.
The Vice President of International Integration, Roxana Villanueva Aquino, GSB ’27, presented a budget request for their upcoming internship event. The Vice President of Fordham College at Rose Hill (FCRH), Emma Blake, FCRH ’25, presented a budget request to purchase graduation cords for the graduating seniors on the FCRH Dean’s Council. The Vice President of Facilities and Dining, Mike Rodriguez, FCRH ’27, presented a budget request to purchase graduation pins for the graduating seniors on his committee. The Vice President of Sustainability, Meredith Leahy, FCRH ’25, presented a budget request for materials for her committee’s Earth Week activities.
The Office of Student Involvement advisor said that Commuter Week starts on April 7 and that Spring Weekend will begin on April 23. The Student Involvement Award ceremony will be on April 22 and Senior Week tickets will go on sale on March 27. She also said that the Senior Leadership Award applications closed with more than 500 submissions and over 200 nominees.
Vice President of Diversity Action Coalition Laila Sayegh, FCRH ’27, announced that a proposal that she and Senator Ananya Grover, FCRH ’26, wrote last year regarding accessibility maps being available on the Fordham University website has finally been implemented. She also stated that Bronx Appreciation Week will be March 31 to April 5. Rodriguez said that the scaffolding in front of Keating is expected to be taken down before commencement.
Senator Anna Brown, FCRH ’27, explained that a bill is in circulation regarding the guarantee of students’ rights to have free speech on campus and she proposed that the USG draft a coalition letter. Villanueva Aquino said that she is in favor of the idea but believes that there should be a disclaimer for international students warning them to be more aware and cautious when engaging with political material online.
