
As Winter Storm Jonas continues to hit the north east, New York has declared a State of Emergency for the city area and Fordham University suspends all travel services such as the Ram Van and shuttle system. According to ABC7 News, heavy snowfall will continue until about 7:30 p.m. tonight, however, Winter Storm Jonas is expected to end completely by midnight.
As of 2:30 p.m. today, a State of Emergency has been declared for New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley. In addition, New York City roads are closed to all non-emergency vehicles. As a result, the New York City bus service is non operational.
In addition, Fordham’s Ram Van service is suspended until at least Sunday evening, should conditions improve. The neighborhood shuttle service, as well as the shuttle service to local subway stations, are also non operational for the Rose Hill community until conditions improve.
The effects of the Nor’easter has inhibited elevated and open-cut subway lines from operating. As a result, all will cease operations this evening at 4:00 p.m. Elevated trains and open-cut subway lines include the 4 and 5 train as well as the the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. Southbound D trains are also experiencing delays due to signal problems at Bay 50 St.
Saturday, Jan. 23, and Sunday, Jan. 24, classes at all campuses of Fordham University—including Fordham Westchester and the Calder Center—are also canceled. There have not been any notices regarding Monday classes.
Most on Campus facilities remain open. Residential dining facilities will be operating on their normal schedules at both the Lincoln Center and Rose Hill campuses. Retail operations, such as Cosi and Subconnection, will only be open if staff is available.
Both Lincoln Center and Rose Hill Health Services offices will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. However, Fordham University Emergency Medical Service are available 24/7 at Rose Hill for all emergencies.
Rose Hill and Lincoln Center Campus’ fitness centers, as well as The Lombardi Center, will remain open and will operate on their normal schedules. In addition, study zones only will be open on a normal schedule for The Quinn and Walsh Libraries. However, the Fordham Law Library will be closed both Saturday and Sunday. In addition, Martino Hall on 45 Columbus Avenue is closed and will remain closed this Sunday.
According to Fordham Public Safety’s Associate Vice President, John Carroll, “members of the University community are strongly advised to stay indoors during the weather emergency.”
