Over the long weekend, the men’s tennis team played two matches. The first match was against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, which the Rams dropped with a close final score of 4-3. The second match was against Niagara, which the Rams won with a final score of 5-1.

On Saturday, the Rams fought till the end against their opponents. They lost the doubles point first. The first doubles match was left unfinished with a score of 2-5. Sophomores Finn Kemper and Jeremy Chung played the second doubles position and ended with a score of 1-6. In the third doubles position, freshman Max Green and sophomore Allen Thornes dropped their set 3-6.

The six singles matches were closer and more varied in terms of scores and victors. In first singles, freshman Lutwin de Macar dropped the match 3-6, 4-6. Green won the second doubles match with a tight score of 7-6, 7-6. Sophomore Fabian Mauritzson fought hard during his third singles match, but ultimately it went to his opponent, 1-6, 7-6, 2-6. Classmate Thornes also dropped the fourth singles match with a score of 5-7, 3-6. Kemper claimed a point for Fordham during his fifth singles match, winning 6-4, 6-1. Finally, freshman Alex Makatsaria played a long match in the sixth singles position, winning 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

The Fordham Rams saw more success at their Sunday match. They started off by earning and gaining the doubles point. All the doubles matches were extremely close, but Fordham came out on top. For first doubles, de Macar and Mauritzson won 7-6. Meanwhile, Green and Thornes won the second doubles match 7-5, and Kemper and Makatsaria claimed the third doubles match with a score of 7-6.

The Rams went on to win four out of six singles matches. Green played the second singles position, winning 6-3, 6-2. Mauritzson played the third singles position, also winning with a score of 6-3, 6-1. In the fourth singles position, Kemper claimed a victory with a score of 7-5, 6-0. Finally, in the fifth singles position, Makatsaria won with a score of 6-2, 6-1. The sixth singles match was left unfinished after one set. This accounts for the final score of 5-1 adding up to 6 instead of the usual 7 points overall.

The team has had much success so far this season, and they are looking for more.

Captain Harris Durkovic explains, “We are preparing for our matches by practicing during the week at Lifetime Athletic in Westchester.”

The Rams return to action next weekend with two matches. They’ll be playing Sacred Heart University on Friday, Feb. 23, and the University of Connecticut on Saturday, Feb. 24.
