Marquette University has also rescinded it’s honorary degree for BILL COSBY. Regardless of the loss of these honorariums, Cosby WAS a pioneer in the entertainment industry, it doesn’t change his accomplishments in the entertainment, education (“The Picture Pages”) and book/music industry. It does however more than insinuate a level of guilt on Cosby’s part, with no successful legal cases in the books against.Cosby…just some preliminary filings based to 30+ year ago complaints. Looking forward, I strongly recommend that the University administrations set up a full committee empowered to review of alll honorary degrees given, and “ways to revoke honorarium” if/when the honoree violates certain ethical and moral standards, perhaps with a minimal standard of PROOF required, prior to openings of discussions. My Fordham College class of 85 had stage and screen actors and teachers Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy as our graduation honorees and speakers. I doubt even 4-5 years ago that anyone might have guessed/surmised the recent explosion of charges and revelations of Cosby’s behavior during the 1970s and 1980s. As for honoring those in government/political service, PERHAPS these HONRARY DEGREES in goverment and/or public affairs would ONLY be attributed to the person’s service…UP TO THE DATE OF HONORARIUM receipt….and dated as such. Therefor, future accomplishments, incluing all work/effort that results in disagreement, charges of malfeasance/illegality, ethical blurs etc. would not apply…the dates that the person is being honored is for a static frame of time//service done…and does not more forward. .
