SPOILER ALERT: Do not read on if you do not want Season 4 episodes one and two of “Girls” spoiled for you.
For those of you who know nothing about “Girls,” the HBO TV show is known as the modern day “Sex in the City.” It follows the lives of four best friends and is written by Lena Dunham, who also stars in the show. Dunham brings intelligent wit and humor to every episode.
Last Sunday, Season 4 premiered with the episode “Iowa.” No matter which of the girls — Marnie, Hannah, Jessa or Shosh — you consider yourself to be, we can all agree that the things that come out of Shosh’s mouth are ridiculous (in the best way possible)! In this episode, I nominate her on having the best quote of the episode when she blurted out, “I finished my degree. And now I’m just in the world, trying to get ‘er done.”
Although Shosh may sometimes speak like she is still back in middle school, she makes brilliant points and her storyline is relatable to most college students.
As much as I want to love Season 4 of “Girls,” I just cannot do it. After viewing this episode, I certainly felt disappointed. But, this episode did set the stage for the direction in which each character is heading in their lives
Sadly, it seems that Hannah and Adam’s relationship is heading down the drain. For possibly the first time ever, Hannah stops communicating her feelings to Adam (we know how much she loves to talk) and leaves New York City with an unsettling plan for their relationship.
Episode two turned out to be even more disappointing than episode one. The episode spent way too much time on Hannah’s new life in Iowa, gave no screen time to Jessa and a minimal amount to Shosh and Marnie. The episode seemed to be trying way too hard to be ironic and was too cliche “So college” would be a better name for this episode than “Triggering.” Ratings have already been dropping, quickly, but “Girls” fans will hope the rest of the Season 4 and Season 5 have redeeming qualities.
