FFU Votes to Ratify Tentative Agreement with University
On Feb. 2, Fordham Faculty Union (FFU) officially voted 200-6 to ratify their tentative agreement (TA) with the university, effectively avoiding a labor strike.
“The tentative agreement has been ratified in a 200-6 vote! We wanted to thank every member who voted,” said FFU on Instagram. “The tentative agreement that was just ratified will be the Fordham Faculty United’s new collective bargaining agreement for Fall 2022 through Spring 2025. All raises in the [collective bargaining agreement] CBA will be retroactive to August 1, 2022 to now. As soon as university HR has the full bargaining unit list, the flexible spending accounts (health benefit) for adjuncts will go into effect. We will have more details on the exact timing in the future. ”
In a Jan. 18 press release, Bob Howe, associate vice president for communications and special adviser to the president, said:
“In negotiating the contract, Fordham sought to balance the needs of the adjunct instructors who fulfill the University’s mission against the costs to students and their families. Within those constraints, common to any non-profit institution, Fordham has worked hard to express its values.”
FFU has been in negotiations with the university since March 2022. In late December 2022, the union voted to begin a labor strike on Jan. 30 if the university did not meet their three main demands: high pay, increased health benefits and pay parity among all university departments. The TA was reached a little over two weeks before the strike’s start date.
