The Fordham Rose Hill United Student Government (USG) met on Thursday Sept. 28, to discuss new business and welcome the class of 2027 senators.
The Commuting Student Association (CSA) delegate announced that, other than the senior board, they finished elections a couple of weeks ago and are hoping to work with USG on future events.
Vice President of Fordham College Rose Hill Emma Balint, FCRH ’24, presented a budget request for the FCRH Dean’s Council. She explained that two subcommittees, STEM and study abroad, are sending out surveys to the student body and are requesting funding to offer a total of four $25 Amazon gift cards.
Jesse Tompkins, assistant director of young alumni and student engagement, gave a presentation to the USG senate about ways for the student body to connect to alumni. He stated that out of the 200,000 living Fordham alumni, 100,000 of those live in the New York area. He said that he wants students to stay engaged with that community and use those connections to better build their professional relationships, network and explore possible career opportunities. Tompkin explained that they have a Fordham mentorship program where students can connect to a mentor who works in a career field that they are interested in and stay in contact with that mentor for a year. He also stated that students can connect to alumni through the Fordham Forever webpage.
Executive President Briana Al-Omoush, FCRH ’24, stated that it was the class of 2027’s first meeting. The class of 2027 senators, 2024 GSB Special election winners and the VP of GSB Dean’s Council were sworn into their positions by Dean of Students Christopher Rogers.
Assistant Dean for Student Involvement Catherine McGlade, Ed.D, said that the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) is currently helping set up the President’s Ball, and they are gearing up for family weekend. She also stated the signups for the lockers in the OSI office suite normally take place on Mondays.
Vice President of Finance and Budgets Eron Maltzman, GSB ’25, said that the budget committee is looking to implement changes to their committee guidelines because their current guidelines are outdated. Vice President of Student Life Brian Inguanti, FCRH ’24, stated that Keating Steps was canceled due to bad weather conditions, but his committee will be meeting this week to see if there is a possibility of rescheduling the event. Balint stated that the Dean’s Council’s study abroad subcommittee is planning on meeting with the director and office of study abroad sometime soon to discuss student concerns. Vice President of the Gabelli School of Business Catie Flores, GSB ’25, said that the Gabelli Dean’s Council is bringing back their small business fair in November. Flores also stated that they are working on collaborating with the Personal and Professional Development Center (PPD) in October. Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Mirei Fukushima, GSB ’25, announced that the Diversity Action Coalition (DAC) has elected their vice chair, and they are working on a collaborative event with Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS). Vice President of Health and Security Molly Ewing, FCRH ’25, said her committee is still working on the CARE events.
Senator Ananya Grover, GSB ’26, stated that she is working with Senator Nicky D’Abundo, FCRH ’26, on a proposal to make the Office of Disability Services more accessible.
