The Fordham Rose Hill United Student Government (USG) met on Thursday, April 3. They announced that they will not be moving forward with the Study Abroad Committee due to difficulties with the Study Abroad Office.
Executive President Eron Maltzman, GSB ’25, presented the executive report. He stated that he and Vice President of FCRH Emma Blake, FCRH ’25, have received communication from the Study Abroad Office, and they will not be moving forward with their proposal to create a new USG Study Abroad Committee due to a lack of approval and overall unwillingness to collaborate with the USG from the Study Abroad Office.
The Pakistani Student Association (PSA) introduced their club presentation. The students said they hope to revive the club because it serves as a social and cultural platform for Pakistani students. They say they want to create a space which feels like a home away from home and where Pakistani-American students can engage more with their identities as well.
They say they plan to focus on Pakistani art, history and music in their meetings and events by having a “Chai and Chat,” as well as a game night with traditional Pakistani foods for their first meetings. Additionally, they say they hope to host events including painting, a Qawwali night where they will discuss its significance and a Pakistan Day celebration.
They requested funding for catering, performances, decorations and guest speakers.
Vice President of International Integration Roxana Villanueva Aquino, GSB ’27, announced that her committee’s Culture Fest is planned for April 15.
The Vice President of the Gabelli School of Business (GSB) Catherine Flores, GSB ’25, presented budget requests for a variety of events including their Earth Day events, Mentorship subcommittee’s “Strive Higher” event, Gabelli Senior Week celebrations and Year in Review Dinner.
Additionally, the USG website page has been updated with campaigning and election information, along with updated headshots. The USG election will have concluded yesterday, April 8.
Blake said that the Undergraduate Research Subcommittee is currently advertising the Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 30, and her Student Success Subcommittee recently had a panel and networking event.
Flores announced she participated in a recent meeting where an artificial intelligence (AI) consultant discussed various ways to incorporate AI into the Gabelli curriculum.
Flores also said that the GSB Small Business Fair will be held this Thursday, April 10. Vice President of Sustainability Meredith Leahy, FCRH ’25, said that she will be adding internship opportunities to their website and her committee is working on an end-of-the-year furniture drive.
Costella announced that the Week of Action against sexual assault starts this week.
The Vice President of Operations Megan Ruzicka, GSB ’27, presented a budget request for pizza for her committee’s Operations Day.
Vice President of Communications and Marketing Shreya Anand, GSB ’26, requested funding for pizza for her next committee meeting.
Vice President of Health and Security Aidan Costella, FCRH ’27, presented a budget request for supplies for his committee’s clothesline project and for catering for three future events.
