President Eron Maltzman, GSB ’25, said that the inauguration for the 2025-26 USG executive board and senate would be on April 24 in Bepler Commons, taking place right after the weekly meeting. During his executive board report, Vice President of Budgets and Finance Peter Grimes, FCRH ’26, noted that USG is not on track to spend all of the money in its spring semester budget. Grimes asked other fellow USG members for ideas on how to best allocate the remaining funds. Several members voiced support for giving the money to charity, however Grimes said that it isn’t possible to donate directly, but encouraged the idea of finding a way that worked within the bounds of budget rules. The potential of a visibility day was also discussed, but nothing was finalized.
USG began the meeting by awarding Club of the Month for April to Leading Women of Tomorrow. Senator of the Month was given to Tina Pathak, FCRH ’28, with credit going to her recent work on a law database.
There were several budget requests proposed at the meeting. The Diversity Action Coalition committee requested money for their Arab American Heritage Month tabling event. The Committee of International Integration asked for funding for their inaugural Culture Fest.
The Communications and Marketing committee hosted a tabling event with a Google Form for the Fordham student body to submit feedback for USG, and requested money to put out Dunkin’ to incentivize students to fill out the form.
For Budget Day, an event where the budget committee reviews all club budget packets, the committee requested funding for Dunkin’ and Chipotle to be provided to members while they work.
Senator Jude Ortega, FCRH ’25, proposed a bylaw change regarding delegates who attend USG meetings. Ortega suggested that USG have a delegate from the Career Center come in to share upcoming events for the student body. Delegates could be ambassadors from the program, who are also students themselves.
Arielle Duran, assistant director for leadership and commuter student services, shared that the Commuter Student Association (CSA) will be having a barbecue for commuter students on April 22.
Vice President of Student Life Joe DaProcida, FCRH ’25, referenced the success of the Student Experience committee’s Beacon Exemplar event, which celebrated faculty and staff whom the students nominated to recognize their hard work over the year. DaProcida noted the attendance of fellow USG executive board members Vice President of Communications and Marketing Shreya Anand, GSB ’26, and Vice President of Facilities and Dining, Mike Rodriguez, FCRH ’27. DaProcida also mentioned an event by The Women’s Network, partnered with Take Back the Night, called Denim Day. The event, raising awareness about sexual assault, will be hosted on April 23 at 1 p.m.
Vice President of Fordham College at Rose Hill Emma Blake, FCRH ’25, shared that there will be a Study Abroad Coffee Chat on April 24 and an Undergraduate Symposium on April 30.
Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Laila Sayegh, FCRH ’27, noted that Bronx Appreciation Week would take place starting April 14.
Rodriguez shared that temporary heating next to O’Hare Hall negatively impacted the grass. Rodriguez also mentioned that the Chomp Truck reopened for the remainder of the semester after being closed due to the winter season. The reopening, which took place on April 9 on Keating Steps, debuted a new meal at the Chomp Truck: fried chicken.
USG will meet next on April 24.
