To be completely honest, I have no clue how I got here. All I can do is retrace my steps. I can remember that 18 months ago, I was a freshman who had just arrived at the Fordham gates, ready to start college and join as many clubs as possible. A couple of weeks into the semester, there was a career fair on Eddie’s, back when in-person events were happening. Those were the days. As I was circling the lawn, a couple of clubs caught my eye, including one called The Fordham Ram. I had written a couple of articles for my high school paper and was interested in seeing what I could do for the Ram. So I signed up and attended the initial meeting with all the newspaper sections. Ultimately, I decided to start with the sports section.

I became a contributing writer for Volume 101, writing articles on the 2019 Formula 1 season. I wrote race recaps, which culminated with a season finale at the end of the year. When the staff applications for Volume 102 of the Ram became available, I was drawn to the assistant sports editor position. I loved being a contributing writer, but I felt capable of more. However, I was unsure if I could maintain good grades while adding a staff position to my plate as a freshman. Unfortunately, I didn’t apply for the position and remained a contributing writer for the sports section. 

Before we were sent home for the 2020 spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I wrote one last article. The production of the Ram moved to online-only, and I didn’t write any new articles since the 2020 F1 season was postponed. After being sent home, I realized I made a mistake in refusing to apply for the assistant sports position, and I knew that if the chance ever came, I had to take it.

When we returned for the Fall 2020 semester, the Ram was still online, but I wrote more articles. Sports were starting to resume, and I focused on the 2020 F1 season and the 2020-21 edition of the UEFA Champions League in my writing. When the opportunity came to apply for Volume 103, I didn’t hesitate. 

Now we are in the modern-day. I can’t begin to describe how excited I am to be on staff for Volume 103 and make the Ram the best it can be. Last week, we kicked Volume 103 off with a print edition. Even though I didn’t fall asleep until 3 a.m., I loved preparing articles for publication, and I knew that it was going to be a fun year. Although we are postponing print newspapers due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases on campus, I am looking forward to many great issues as we make the Ram better than before.
