Every football fan waits for their favorite players to step on the field at the start of the season. They wait for the superstars to do what they do best on one of the biggest stages in the world. This season has been a little different because of the massive turn of events on some teams injuries to their players, and some of them are the biggest stars in football.
It’s disappointing to see anyone get hurt, but it’s especially sad to see a player that can help your team. This past Sunday, we might have lost one of the biggest players in the game for the rest of the year in Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers always puts on a great show, and his broken right collarbone the worst thing that could have happen to the Packers.
In the last few weeks, the league has lost players that have a huge impact on the game, such as Giants receiver Odell Beckham, Texans defensive end JJ Watt, Chiefs defensive back Eric Berry and Patriots fan favorite Julian Edelman. They all have one thing in common: None of them are coming back this year, with severe injuries including torn ACLs and MCLs, as well as broken bones and severe concussions. Sometimes it just takes the fun out of the game when players like these are injured, especially when you know they could help your team win.
There is only one upside to the whole injury bug situation: you get to see guys that get to step up that you know but never play. These chances give other players the opportunity to become superstars like the ones they take over for. One such example is Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, a rookie that took over for Spencer Ware after tearing his MCL in August and is on pace to break the all-time rushing record. Others include Patriots Chris Hogan, who took over for Julian Edelman and is now a favorite option for Tom Brady after scoring five touchdowns in the first six games.
Injuries can happen at any time and we never like to see it happen; however, it’s the players who come in to help get the wins that are exciting to watch for the future. Anyone can get hurt, but anyone can step up.
