Fordham Men’s Basketball Set to Open Against Iona
After months of speculation, uncertainty and the postponement of the fall sports season, Fordham Men’s Basketball remained ready to play in the winter. Now, they know when that day will come. On Nov. 25, the Rams will begin their 2020 campaign with a home opener against the Iona Gaels, with the rest of the schedule set to be revealed soon.
Despite the lack of fans in the arena, the excitement for this matchup and the rest of the season remains. Iona will be beginning an entirely new era in its history, led by historic head coach Rick Pitino, the former Louisville head coach with a pair of National Championships to his name.
Fordham is entering this season with newfound excitement as well. A dominant victory over George Washington University at the abridged A-10 Championship left a bittersweet end to an otherwise disappointing season.
The announcement reignites a historic series that has laid dormant for over a decade. Fordham and Iona have met 63 times over the years, with the Rams holding a narrow 32-31 advantage, with the last matchup, in 2006, a Rams win, representing the difference.
If Fordham hopes to continue its momentum, even if it may come months after the fact, a victory against Iona would be a perfect way to do it.
