On Saturday, Oct. 21, Fordham Men’s Soccer defeated Rhode Island 2-0 at the URI Soccer Complex in a battle of the Rams. Fordham earned their fourth win of A-10 competition, ranking fourth in conference standing with a 4-1-1 record. Fordham’s overall record is now 10-3-2 on the year, which is the fourth time in the last eight years that Fordham has recorded double-digit wins in a season.
Junior goalie Rashid Nuhu led the defense to yet another shutout with four saves, marking his tenth of the season and becoming only the third goalkeeper in program history to notch double-digit shutouts in a season. Nuhu joins Jeff Knuth in 1987 and Ryan Meara in 2011 in a standout season that features 44 saves and three Defensive Player of the Week awards.
Both teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie in the first half, but Fordham struck in the 51st minute. Freshman midfielder Andron Kagramanyan sent a pass through to freshman defender Jacob Bohm, who fired an attempt past the URI goalkeeper and buried the ball in the top left corner to give Fordham a 1-0 lead. Bohm’s goal was his third of the season, as well as in the last five games. He now ranks third in scoring behind the Loebe brothers, senior Jannik and junior Janos.
Fordham doubled its lead in the 83rd minute as Jannik Loebe recorded his fifth goal on the year. Running up the left side of the field, Jannik Loebe made a run up the left side and passed the ball to Janos Loebe, who threaded a pass through the defense back to Jannik for the score, bringing the lead to 2-0.
With two games left in A-10 competition, the Rams are looking ahead to the conference championships, which start Nov. 5 after playing 10th-seeded St. Louis and 1st-seeded Massachusetts. Fordham is currently the fourth seed, which would place them in a matchup with 5th-seeded Dayton, who they will not play in the regular season. As the defending conference champions and with only one loss to second-seeded VCU in A-10 competition, Fordham will be looking for consecutive titles this postseason.
Fordham will be playing next against Saint Louis in a home game at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday, Oct. 28.
