2018-19 Women’s Basketball A-10 Schedule Announced
The wait is over, and Women’s Basketball has its eyes set on the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship at Pittsburgh’s A.J. Palumbo Center. The conference schedule, which begins Jan. 5 at George Washington, includes four nationally-televised games and home-and-homes with Dayton, Saint Louis, and Davidson. Last year, the Rams played the regular-season-champion Flyers down to the final seconds at the Rose Hill Gym in their first meeting, and fell to Saint Joseph’s in the A-10 Quarterfinals in Richmond. After finetuning a challenging non-conference schedule, highlighted by the prestigious Gulf Cost Invitational, Fordham hopes this season’s conference slate is one to remember.
Oland Earns A-10 Offensive Player of the Week
Soccer junior defender Joergan Oland was awarded Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, making it three straight weeks that a Ram garnered the accolade. Oland scored two game-tying goals this past week, finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute against Northwestern, a match 13th-ranked Fordham would go on to win. He followed up that performance with an 88th-minute strike against Bryant, helping the Rams escape with a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
Edmonds and Kennedy Make Noise in Pros
Chase Edmonds, FCRH ’18, and Brett Kennedy, FCRH ’16, made their NFL and MLB debuts, respectively, within the span of a month. Edmonds, the Patriot League’s all-time leader in rushing, took the field for his first regular season game on Sunday in an Arizona Cardinals uniform, carrying four times for 24 yards and catching four passes. The 24-year-old Kennedy picked up his first win for the Padres on August 31, tossing six shutout innings.
38th Battle of the Bronx
Coming back home on a positive note, taking the last two in Las Vegas’ Rebel Challenge, Volleyball will square off with Manhattan for the 38th time in program history, a series dubbed as the “Battle of the Bronx” across all athletic teams on campus. Fordham has swept Manhattan each of the last two years, with an overall 25-10-2 mark against its local friend since 1980. The Jaspers come into Wednesday’s 7 p.m. matchup winless at 0-10.
