Napoli 6-2 Hellas Verona:
Napoli managed to dominate the second half of a tight game leading to a blowout win over Serie A minnows Hellas Verona, which leaves them unbeaten in five straight games. A second half hat trick by Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain led Napoli to a strong win.
Napoli came into this game hovering around mid table and were in need of a win. After a slow start in the beginning of the season, it seems like they may have begun to hit their form. Hellas Verona have done reasonably well by staying above the relegation zone, which is a definite goal for the season. After being promoted two years ago, the Verona based club look to continue their stay in Serie A for another year.
Hellas managed to a score a shocking first-minute goal over the home side through midfielder Emil Hallfreosson. Napoli managed to respond well to the initial goal and scored two straight goals from captain Marek Hamisk, who scored his first goals during this season. Hellas managed to bring things level again when young forward Nico Lopez showed his skill in finishing cooly against Napoli keeper Rafael. After this, Napoli took over the game with a hat trick from Gonzalo Higuain and another goal coming from Callejon to seal the deal.
AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina:
Milan failed to push to third place in a tough 1-1 draw with struggling giants Fiorentina. Goals from De Jong and Illicic gave both sides a fair share of points.
AC Milan came into this game with a strong position at the top of the table. After missing out on a Champions League spot last year, the club clearly desires a spot back among Europe’s best. Milan have had ups and downs this season, but overall it seems like a positive year for the Rossoneri. Meanwhile, Fiorentina have had a tough season. After losing star forward Giuseppe Rossi again to a knee injury, the club has been unable to replicate the form from last season that earned them a top five finish.
The game opened up in the first half after a header off the corner from Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong. Despite the early goal, Fiorentina managed to level up the match in the second half through Illicic. The Slovenian forward sniped a shot from outside the box, past a helpless Abbiati, Milan’s goalkeeper. This left both teams with one point apiece from the match.
