The Fordham water polo team wrapped up the regular season this weekend with four road games against Connecticut College, MIT, No. 12 Brown, and NO. 12 Harvard. They split the weekend contests 2-2, with wins against Connecticut College and MIT, and losses against Brown and Harvard.
The team began the four-game weekend with a 10-8 win over Connecticut College, a game in which seven different Fordham players found the net. The next morning, the team traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts to make quick work of MIT, handling the team in a 12-6 victory. Freshman Magnus Sims scored a hat trick in the game, supported by two goals a piece from seniors Andrew Gonzalez, Patrick Reyes, junior R.J. Simmons, as well as goals from seniors Davis DeFontes and Peter Bergum, and sophomore Grant Keesling.
However, the weekend took a turn later that day as the Rams dropped their next game to Harvard, 12-6 and then lost to Brown 11-6. In their final game against Brown the Rams went into the fourth quarter leading 6-4, but could not handle a late rally by the Bears, who won the game to finish undefeated against division opponents.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Jahns finished the game with 11 saves, capping off a breakout season by the keeper, in which he recorded 240 saves, the fifth most in the last 15 years.
The Rams move into this weekend’s CWPA Regionals ranked fourth and will first face MIT on Saturday. The winner of this game will go on to play top-seeded Brown to try to earn a place in the CWPA Championship in two weeks.
