Mike Magpayo is set to become the new head coach for the men’s basketball team, Fordham University announced March 29. Magpayo comes to Fordham from the University of California, Riverside where he spent the last five years as the men’s head basketball coach.
According to Matt Norlander of CBS News, Magpayo has signed a six-year contract with the university. At Riverside, Magpayo held an 89-63 record over the last five years and won several coaching awards including the Big West Coach of the Year and the Joe B. Hall Award.
In a statement on Fordham Athletics’ website, Magpayo said, “The excitement for this thrilling opportunity to lead Fordham Basketball is through the roof. I believe there is great potential in this program and I intend to maximize all of it going forward..”
“Mike Magpayo is one of the top coaches in college basketball and we’re excited that he will be joining us at Fordham,” said Charles Guthrie, director of Fordham Athletics in a statement on their website.
