Football Gathers Three Patriot League Honors
Despite a 42-41 non-conference home loss to Bryant this past weekend, many individuals excelled for 1-6 Fordham Football. Senior wideout Austin Longi made 10 receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns, running away with Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. He now holds league leads in receptions per game (5.3) and receiving yards per game (79.4). It was another week, and another Patriot League Rookie of the Week for freshman standout quarterback Tim DeMorat, who has a stronghold on the job after a second straight stellar performance. DeMorat completed 19 of 28 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Finally, not enough attention has been granted to sophomore special teamer Andrew Mevis, who once again handled all aspects of the kicking game in superb fashion, connecting on both field goals from 32 and 37 yards, respectively, and punting five times for an average of 47 yards, including a career-long 70-yard pin. The attention came his way this week in the form of the Patriot League’s Special Teams Player of the Week award.
WBB Slotted Third, Cavanaugh First Team All-Conference
Fordham Women’s Basketball is set to tip off its 2018-19 season on November 9, and the Atlantic 10 released the results of its Preseason Poll. The coaches gathered and determined that the Rams, who finished 12-4 in conference play last year and fell in the A-10 quarterfinals, are destined for a third-place finish, sharing the spot with last year’s A-10 Tournament champion, George Washington. The all-conference teams were also announced, and representing Fordham is redshirt-sophomore Bre Cavanaugh. After averaging 17.0 points per game as a freshman, she earned a spot on the preseason first team.
Rowing at Head of the Charles
Fordham Women’s Rowing competed at the 54th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, sending two shells, one in the Women’s Championship 4+ and one in the Women’s Lightweight 4+. Despite difficult conditions, the 4+ crew placed 13th out of 19, while the lightweight 4+ crew slotted 9th out of 16.
